This cycling trip takes
you around the famous Ring of Kerry, one of the most spectacular routes in
Ireland, famous for its coastal and mountainous scenery. Get inspired by
wind-swept cliffs, still lakes, lost valleys and numerous beautiful beaches.
You
will receive detailed route description and maps on Day 1 of the tour. The notes
below are designed to give you an idea of each cycling day.
Overnight in Killarney. Day 2.
Killarney to Glenbeigh (49km/31
miles) This days cycle takes
you through the Beaufort Valley and onto the isolated valley of Glencar where
you stop for lunch. In the
afternoon you cycle along the shores of Caragh Lake and onto the seaside village
of Glenbeigh. Overnight in Glenbeigh. Day 3. Glenbeigh to Waterville (46km/28 miles, distance with optional cycle included 67km/42 miles) This days cycle takes
you along the shores of Dingle Bay with great views to the Dingle Peninsula and
onto the market village of Caherciveen where you can have a lunch. In the early
afternoon you have the option of doing a longer cycle taking in Valentia Island,
which is connected to the mainland by ferry and a bridge. The afternoon cycles takes you to the seaside village of
Waterville. Overnight in Waterville for 2
nights. Day
4. Rest Day in
Waterville A day at leisure. Optional cycling routs are available.
Day 5.
Waterville to Sneem
(48km/30 miles) Today’s cycle takes you through Coomakista Pass, which
is one of the best viewing points in Ireland with magnificent views over Kenmare
and the Atlantic Ocean. Lunch stop either
in Derrynane House, which is the home of the Irish Liberator Daniel O’Connell
or in the small village of Caherdaniel. After lunch you cycle along the coast to the beautiful
village of Sneem. Overnight in Sneem. Day 6. Sneem to Killarney (45km/28 miles, distance with optional cycle included 61km/38 miles Today’s cycle takes you inland and off the main Ring of
Kerry road. The highlights of the cycle
are Molls Gap where you can stop for lunch. From
here to Killarney you will see the spectacular Lakes of Killarney.
Stopping at Ladies View is a must. On
route to Killarney you will pass Torc Waterfall and Muckross House.
If you want to lengthen today’s cycle you can detour to
the heritage town of Kenmare. Overnight
in Killarney for 2 nights. Day 7.
Killarney to Black Valley
(24km/15 miles or 56km/35 miles) This cycle takes you through the dramatic Gap of Dunloe
and into the remote Black Valley. You
have the option of cycling down to the edge of the lakes and taking a boat
through the 3 Lakes of Killarney or continuing to cycle into Killarney. Day 8.
