An absolute jewel for trekkers is the Danube River Heights hiking route in Upper Austrian’s Danube valley. Shady forests, meadows in bloom and vividly murmuring brooks are your constant companions. This part of the Danube Valley offers a tremendous variety of culture and scenery.

After the three-river-city of Passau the Danube flows past the densely wooded slopes of a narrow valley between the Bavarian Woods and the Sauwald to Schlögen. Here the Danube flows backwards in a spectacular meander.
